Mr. Gaddis’s first book, Jenny Willow, ranks very high on my all-time list of favorite books. It was because of this that I could not wait to read his latest book. I am neither a field-trialer nor do I have any aspirations to be one, and so I was a little worried that this book would not strike a cord with me. To say my worries were set aside early would be an understatement, on its very basic level this is a book for all dog lovers, and for anyone who has had that special connection with a dog, it is so much more.
Gaddis has quickly become one of my favorite modern authors, and I only hope he continues to produce such masterpieces. There are many talented outdoor writers and dog writers; however, there are very few truly masterful wordsmiths, and I would definitely put Mike Gaddis in that category.
I do not want to give too much of this book away other than to say if you are a dog person you really should read it. Because I am very sappy, I often get choked up by dog books and stories; however, only two books have really shaken me much deeper. The first was Where the Red Fern Grows when I was in junior high, the second is Zip Zap by Mike Gaddis.
