Jenny Willow by Mike Gaddis

If I was to come up with a list of all-time favorite books, hunting or otherwise, Jenny Willow would definitely be near the top of that list. If you are looking for a how-to book, this isn’t the book for you, but if you are looking for a very well written, heart-wrenching tale, this is a book you must add to your collection.

This is an well crafted story about a lonely widower and his English Setter, the life they share together and the tragedies they endure. During my youth, my reading tastes always slanted towards tales by Jim Kjelgaard and to books like Where the Red Fern Grows, with Jenny Willow Mike Gaddis has taken me back to this common story of man’s love of dogs and especially hunting dogs.

It has been a long time since I was so moved by a book. This is also a book anyone who enjoys reading will appreciate, whether they hunt or not. Jenny Willow is not just a hunting book, but also a book about life and the ups and downs we endure. I cannot do this book the justice it deserves, other than to say buy it, you will not be disappointed.
