The Field Spaniel is very similar in appearance to the American Cocker Spaniel. In fact, from the early 1880s until 1901, the only distinction between the two breeds was size.
This breed is very energetic and enthusiastic both at home and in the field. Like the American Cocker and the English Cocker Spaniels, the Field Spaniel as a hunting dog has suffered. In recent years, there has been virtually no selective breeding of Field Spaniels for hunting ability. Regardless, these dogs remain highly intelligent companions and fare very well in obedience and agility competitions.
