Red & White Setter

This may be another example of splitting hairs. The Irish Red and White Setter is very similar to the Irish Setter and is the forerunner to that  breed. Essentially the solid red color became faborable and many individuals bred only to that standard. This nearly led to the elimination of the dogs with white in their coats. However, some in Ireland continued to breed and hunt with the red and white dogs, and this type of Irish Setter has found a following in other parts of Europe and here in America.
