Gordon Setter

The Gordon has often been referred to as the foot hunter's setter. A solidly built, well muscled, black and tan dog, the Gordon is a very elegant looking specimen. Not as outgoing as other representatives of the setters, the Gordon becomes attached to its family and hunting partner, and although not aggressive, will tolerate outsiders rather than welcome them warmly.

In the field the Gordon typically is not as rangy as the other setters and pointers, hence the tag of being a foot hunter's dog. They will thoroughly work cover at a methodical pace. The dark color of the Gordon may hamper it in warmer climates and an owner will have to be very observant while working them in the early hunting season. The Gordon Club Web site sums up this dog best: beauty, brains and birdsense.
