Flat Coat Retriever

If any of the retriever breeds suffer from an identity crisis it would have to be the Flat Coat Retriever. To answer many first time observers, no it is not a long-haired Labrador, and no it is not a black Golden. That being said, the Flat Coat is a breed all unto itself. The Flat Coat is a happy and active dog suited for family life or retrieving in the field.

The flat coat is a beautiful dog with a well put together look combined with a lean, well-muscled body type. The hallmark of the breed is its lustrous black coat. The coat is not overly long, but with good density and fullnews will protect this breed from all types of weather.

Fans of the breed describe him as a family companion hunting retriever. He is a highly intelligent, lighthearted, affectionate friend. He is a dog who needs to be a member of the family and those who make that connection will be rewarded with his love and affection.
