Curly Coat Retriever

The Curly Coated Retriever, or the Curly for short, is described on the breed's Web site as a "blue-collar" retriever. A dog developed as a true meat dog and expected to retrieve game no matter the conditions of the day or the handler at the return. A dog with a distinguishing name and coat among the retrieving breeds, the Curly's curls are small, tight and waterproof and extend from the back of the head down to the elbows, hocks and the top of the tail.

The Curly has been described as graceful and elegant with a sturdy structure and hardworking drive. It is an even-tempered dog that can be intensely loyal and protective if the need arises. Often reserved with strangers but loving to those it is closest to, the Curly is an overall affectionate breed. The Curly has been described as very slow to mature, but quick and intelligent. Thus, another breed that may require a more tailored training program to meet those needs.
