Vizsla

The Vizsla originated in Hungary as the favoriate hunting dogs of the Magyar tribes in the eighth century. As such, it has a very long history as a sporting breed, the smallest of the versatile pointing-retrieving breeds bred not only for hunting but as a family companion and household dog.

The Vizsla is not content to be placed in a kennel and needs attention and human interaction along with frequent exercise and stimulation. The Vizsla is a robust, but compact dog with a beautiful rust-colored coat. It's small size led to its description as the poacher's dog.  When only nobility was allowed the privilege to hunt on the great estates, the Vizsla allowed a poacher to grab his dog, stuff him in the game pouch and elude the gamekeeper.
