Small Munsterlander

The Small Munsterlander is not related in any way to the Large Munsterlander except in name. This breed also claims its heritage in Germany and is a very versatile hunting partner. It has been said that training this highly intelligent breed is easy, but like other intelligent gundogs, the Small Munsterlander requires adequate exercise and mental stimulation as an adult. The Small Munsterlander, has many occupations in the field, including finding, pointing, tracking and retrieving upland birds, waterfowl, and fur bearing animals.

The Small Munsterlander traditionally measures between 19 and 22 inches tall and usually weigh between 38-58 lbs. Their coat is smooth lies flat with feathering on the tail, front legs and thighs. Regular grooming is necessary for the Small Munsterlander to retain its elegant appearance. They are usually brown and white with ticking and roan.

Known for their intelligence and affection, they make a good companion in the home and field, marsh or woods. Sometimes vocal but never aggressive and energetic but not high strung, the Small Musterlander loves people and prefers the home to a kennel run and is offended by physical corrections. They should have a strong desire to point, swim, track and retriever naturally. They were originally used on mammals as well as birds, but this is currently not common in North America.
