German Shorthair

The German Shorthair Pointer is a versatile, all-purpose hunting dog. It is very similar in many respects to the Deutsch Kurzhaar, its European counterpart. In the field, the Shorthair demonstrates natural pointing, tracking and retrieving abilities and boundless energy.

That energetic personality combined with the Shorthair's intelligence makes this breed perfect for families in the country with a great deal of open space for exercise and frequent runs. In addition, the Shorthair is a very affectionate breed that does very well in a home environment with children.

The German Shorthair usually measures between 21 and 25 inches and traditionally weighs between 45 to 70 pounds. They are a sturdy dog, lean and muscular. Traditional colors include solid liver, or a combination of liver and white or roan. Their coat is short, thick and hard to the touch, making it an excellent insulator for water and cold.
