| Braque Francais
The
Braque Francais is better known in France, where the breed
originated in the 17th century. This breed is relatively new to
North America and has a very large following in Canada and certain
pockets in this country. The Braque Francais has been described as a highly intelligent, mild and easy
going dog and a versatile hunting companion. The Braque Francais can
be an unassuming hunting partner compared with other pointing breeds
and prefers to hunt at a slower pace, as if conserving its energy
for an all day event rather than a short sprint. A natural
retriever, the Braque Francais is said to be self-training, striving
to please its master in the field.
As a medium breed, the Braque Francais
usually measures between 22 and 26 inches and weighs between 55-75
pounds. Their short, thick coat is white with chestnut markings and
the eyes are chestnut or dark yellow. The first time you see a
Braque it's easy to mistake them for a smaller German Shorthair.
